Special Events
There are festivals and product-tasting events on the Perry Road in the Mostviertel in Lower Austria year round.
The two highpoints of the year are Spring Perry Festival when the pear trees are in full bloom and Autumn Perry Festival when the perry is maturing in tanks.
Spring Perry Festival
In late April, thousands of blooming fruit trees transform the countryside along the Perry Road into a sea of fragrant white blossoms. The locals celebrate this wonderful sight with a colorful series of celebrations from April through June. They range from product-tasting events to musical festivals, from blossom hikes to vintage car rallies.
Perry Day is the biggest event, set every year for the last Sunday in April. Perry Road taverns (“mostheurige”), Perry Road Innkeepers, Perry Barons, excursion destinations and local towns and villages invite visitors to come to perry tasting events on this day, to gather for enjoyable music, guided hikes and rallies. Some farmers along the Perry Road sell their own wares directly at the farm.
Autumn Perry Festival
When the pears are harvested and the young perry is maturing in barrels, you know the time has come for the Autumn Perry Festival. The mixed woodlands in the gently rolling hill country turn all conceivable hues of red and yellow. Festivals and tasting events are staged here until the early winter. The new perry is also presented at this time.
A highlight in November is a two-day event called “Die Moststrasse brennt” ("Perry Road Spirits"), where high-end Perry Road distillers invite the public to sample their wares distilled from pears and other regional fruits. Special degustation menus are also offered.
